About our Ultrasound for Surgeons Course
What Does the Ultrasound for Surgeons Course Cover?
The course is designed to provide surgeons with basic core knowledge and skills in ultrasound use. It will also cover relevant surgical applications, including:
- Abdominal ultrasound – appendix, aorta, gallbladder, liver and free fluid
- Urology – renal tract imaging
- MSK – soft tissue infection, injury, fractures and dislocations
- Ultrasound guided procedures – vascular access, ultrasound assisted drainage
What skills will you develop by the end of the course?
After this course trainees will be able to:
- Select the appropriate probe and make instrument adjustments in order to optimise an ultrasound image
- Use the common functions and features of various ultrasound machines, including hand-held devices
- Obtain standard views of relevant organ systems
- More confidently conduct ultrasound-guided procedures
How is the course taught?
After you book your place, you’ll get access to pre-course learning materials covering the core knowledge required to start using ultrasound. It will allow you to spend the course day more effectively, focusing on hands-on scanning practice.
On the course day, short lectures covering applications of PoCUS in Surgery will alternate with practical sessions, which involve scanning on healthy volunteers and simulators with pathologies. You will practice using a range of ultrasound machines, including hand-held devices.
