This 1-day in-person Focused Ultrasound for Intensive Care (FUSIC) course covers all the knowledge and practical skills that you need to complete the training for your FUSIC Heart and FUSIC Lung accreditation.
Our FUSIC Course is fully approved by the Intensive Care Society (ICS). Attendance on an approved course or completion of online training is mandatory for sign-off by the ICS.

About Our FUSIC Heart + FUSIC Lung Course
What Does the FUSIC Course Cover?
Our one-day combined FUSIC Heart + FUSIC Lung course provides you with lectures by experienced FUSIC trainers as well as practical scanning sessions to develop your intensive care ultrasound skills.
The course covers:
- Basic ultrasound physics, machine controls, basic views and image optimisation
- Background to FUSIC Heart and FUSIC Lung
- Scanning the heart from the PLAX, PSAX, A4C and subcostal windows
- Recognition of heart anatomy and pathology
- IVC, pericardial and pleural fluid
- Point-of-care lung ultrasound examination and recognition of pulmonary pathology
- how to get FUSIC Heart and FUSIC Lung sign-off; accreditation beyond FUSIC
How is the FUSIC Heart + Lung Course Taught?
The first part of the day will be focused on FUSIC Heart, with dedicated lectures and practical sessions following the FUSIC Heart curriculum. In the afternoon, you’ll have a FUSIC Lung lecture followed by practical teaching on how to perform a point-of-care lung ultrasound examination and recognise pulmonary pathology with lung ultrasound.
You’ll have ample time to practice the skills that you learn in the lectures and live demonstrations. Our faculty are trained to guide you in achieving the right ultrasound views of the heart and lungs.
The course finishes with a quiz to test the knowledge you have gained throughout the day.
