About our Basic Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ultrasound Course
What does the course cover?
The course covers ultrasound equipment, probes and the most important controls: probe handling, image acquisition and image optimisation.
The topics covered include:
- The Uterus: size, shape and position
- Uterine abnormalities: endometrial pathology and myometrial pathology
- Adenexal scanning: normal anatomy vs pathology
- Early and late pregnancy scanning
- Introduction to TV scanning technique
What skills will you develop?
This course will help you to acquire the knowledge and competence to understand the principles of conducting a safe and appropriate gynaecological ultrasound examination and to use an ultrasound machine competently and independently.
You will develop skills in identifying the features of normal pelvic ultrasound. You will learn to record and label images and understand the principles of report writing so that you can confidently generate an ultrasound report.
You will gain confidence in using ultrasound in an emergency setting to identify free peritoneal fluid when there is concern about a ruptured ectopic pregnancy/ruptured haemorrhagic ovarian cyst.
How is the course taught?
During the course, short lectures and demonstrations will alternate with focused practical scanning sessions. You will scan on volunteers, including pregnant women; and on state-of-the-art-simulators able to demonstrate the normal pelvis, pelvic pathologies and early pregnancy. We have a range of modern ultrasound machines to work with, including the latest hand-held devices.
The course is led by highly skilled ultrasound practitioners with extensive clinical experience in O&G Ultrasound.
