Ultrasound Image Acquisition & Optimisation Course (Micro-credential)
All of our micro-credentials include some ultrasound physics as this is essential for good clinical practice. However, this micro-credential specifically devoted to ultrasound physics goes much deeper. This will be taught directly by staff from Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU).
Completing the Ultrasound Image Acquisition & Optimisation Micro-credential is mandatory for those who are planning to obtain a PgCert PoCUS award via micro-credentials.
Registration will be through Canterbury Christ Church University.
Next dates: 23rd January – 27th March 2025
Fee: ÂŁ450

What does the Ultrasound Image Acquisition & Optimisation course cover?
The course will first explore the physics of ultrasound and the scientific principles underpinning ultrasound imaging.
Students will then learn about the different types of ultrasound equipment that can and might be used, including the role of Doppler ultrasound, and how these affect the clinical applications of the equipment.
Students will also learn how an effective imaging strategy can maximize the quality of the images produced. This will encompass a theoretical exploration of the interrelationships between image production, artefact recognition and reduction techniques and the use of contrast agents.
Finally, it will address the issues relating to safety and working within the ultrasound environment.
How is the Ultrasound Image Acquisition & Optimisation course taught?
Unlike our other micro-credentials, the Ultrasound Image Acquisition & Optimisation course won’t involve practical sessions. The knowledge content will be covered by online video materials and you’ll be able to interact with the faculty from Canterbury Christ Church University online.
Who will be teaching the course?
The course will be taught by experienced faculty with many years of both point-of-care ultrasound use in clinical practice and in the teaching of the relevant skills.
How will the knowledge of Ultrasound Image Acquisition & Optimisation be assessed?
The award of the micro-credential will require successful completion of a written assessment.
This will be assessed through a multiple-choice examination using still images where appropriate.
